What is a Virtual Assistant (VA)?

According to Wikipedia.org, a virtual assistant is an entrepreneur (independent contractor) who provides professional administrative, technical, or creative (social) assistance to clients from a home office using the Internet, e-mail, phone conferences, online work spaces, and fax machine as modes of communication and data delivery.  Professionals in this business work on a contractual basis where long-lasting cooperation is standard.  Typically 5 years of administrative experience in an office is expected at such positions as executive assistant, office manager/supervisor, secretary, legal assistant, paralegal, legal secretary, real estate assistant, information technology, et cetera.

What is your experience and background?

For 30 years, I've been providing administrative and personal support for business owners, individuals, job seekers, and students. Professionally, I worked as office manager, administrative assistant, bookkeeper, and education coordinator for 20 of those years.  I became proficient in the use of computers, office technology, and various software programs over the years, and took a computer repair course while earning a degree in Industrial Electronics.

I've always been praised for my effective writing style.  At the age of 18, I won an essay writing contest and was awarded a 4-year tuition scholarship.  I received numerous in-class writing awards from three different colleges for creative and technical papers, speeches, and PowerPoint presentations.  Professionally, I've received high praise and accolades from employers for my development of effective training materials, policy and procedure manuals, and appeal letters --- including a successful IRS correspondence compliance audit.

How long have you been providing virtual assistance services?

Although experts estimate that the term Virtual Assistant was first used between 1995-1997, I have been providing virtual assistance to my clients since the late 1980's.  At that time, I worked both a full-time and a part-time job during the week, and operated my own flea-market store on weekends.  So using email and telephone conferencing was the only way I had time to service my tax clients and still have a few hours for myself.

Why work with a VA?

Just because you can do it all, doesn't mean you should do it all yourself.  When you have become overwhelmed with the tasks at hand, and find that you no longer are enjoying a quality lifestyle, then it is time to delegate some of those responsibilities to someone else.  After all being a good delegator is one of the qualities of being a good manager.  When you partner with me, you are delegating tasks to a skilled administrative professional who truly wants to see you succeed.

Who uses BGGE Admin Support services and what services did you perform?

So far, physicians, realtors, micro-business owners, non-profit administrators, job seekers, students, and retirees have used my freelance services.   The most requested jobs have been resumes, business proposals, computer tutoring, math tutoring, computer optimization, computer malware removal, and budget planning.  I've also created a budget training presentation in PowerPoint, a year book spread, and numerous procedure manuals.

How much do you charge?

Outsourcing work to BGGE is very cost-effective because you only pay for the services and time you need without the overhead associated with an employee.  For tutoring, I only charge $10/hr plus travel, if applicable.  All other project types will be determined on a case by case basis dependent on complexity and deadline requirements.  Note:  I do not work in emergency mode, so please submit your request early.
