BGGE Web Design FAQ

On this page, you will find answers to "frequently asked questions" by BGGE's Web Design clients.  I have recently started setting up Word Press Blogs and the transition from Citymax's easy control panel is somewhat daunting for new users, so I have added a Q&A section to assist with that.

If you don't find what you are looking for, simply contact me by email or submit a free quote request, and I will call you.

What makes your service so different than all the others online?

Understanding. I work with you to understand the needs of your business and target audience to ensure that the website I build will meet those needs. I'll explain my recommendations in detail and won't try to sell you features you don't need. From the beginning, I'll coach you on how to grow your new online business. And if you are not too computer savvy, I'll train you how to use your hosting company's control panel so that you can eventally perform your own website maintenance.

Why and when did you start BGGE Web Design?

After building sites for a few family members and friends, I started receiving requests from their customers and associates.  So responding to these requests and the encouragement of webmasters from my business networks, I launched  BGGE Web Design in December, 2007.

Why should I hire you if today's website builders are so easy to use?

Not all website builders are as easy and user-friendly as they claim.  These WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get) or drag & drop editors claim to allow you to quickly design and post a web site without writing a line of HTML code.    However,  many produce some unexpected results that can only be corrected using an HTML editor and others have limited functionality.  In general they often work  great for small or uncomplicated sites.  But if you are not able to create the type of website that you need, then what is the point?

One of the purposes of BGGE Web Design is to jump start your online business.  By figuring out your website builder's idiosyncrasies, I'll shorten the learning curve for you and teach you what HTML  coding you need to know.

How long will it take you to build my website?

In general, the time frame is determined by the size of your web site, the complexity of your site design, and my current client design schedule.

Each project is different. The most common delay in the creation of a site is waiting for the client to send their content (i.e. outline, brochures, business cards, pictures, logo, etc.). That is why you are asked to submit your content within 10 days.

Once you have submitted your text & files , your website mockup is normally ready for approval in 3 to 7 business days. From the time of our initial telephone consult to launch, and allowing for revisions, small websites will take about 2 weeks to complete.

What are the basic services I need to get my business online?

You will need a domain name, a hosting company, a web designer, and a good web counter & tracker to evaluate your website hits.

How do I choose a domain name?

Since a domain name reflects your business or personal identity, choose it wisely. If the name you want is not available, even more thought should be given to it because an ill-chosen name may result in your customers not finding you and/or lost sales. For Tips on Choosing a Good Domain Name

Will you alter the text in the documentation I submit?

Yes, BGGE Web Design reserves the right to correct grammar, misspellings, and sentence structure unless it is purposely presented to make a point.  I will also populate the page content with keywords for search engine optimization purposes.  In either case, you have final approval rights.

Are there any limitations on the use of photos or other graphics on my website?

You are allowed two images for every page ordered.  They may be allocated to the body, header, photo album, or any page that your want.  Graphical image formats and size may be limited by your hosting plan.   As a rule of thumb, your jpeg or gif images should not be larger than 640x640 pixels.    Charges apply for uploading additional images and extensive custom editing.

Can I add multimedia files to my website?

Yes, multimedia files for audio, video, forms or instruction guides for visitors to print or download, and almost any other file format are allowed. However, what type, how they will be displayed, and the file size limits are dependent on the hosting plan you use. Normally, BGGE Web Design will add them to your site at no additional charge per page usless we have to modify or furnish the file.

What type of information do you need to build an Ecommerce site?

Your basic business information, product images and descriptions, store policy, return policy, etc.

Am I required to have your self-promoting link at the bottom of my web pages?

No.  However, those sites that carry the link will have a reciprocal link from one of BG&G Enterprises pages and/or directories.  This helps increase search engine ranking for both parties.  However, BGGE Web Design reserves the right to remove or ask you to remove the link in the event that you alter your website content  that is pornographic, offensive, or discriminating to individuals or organizations.

What are the user roles & their capabilities?

In general, *Administrator - Somebody who has access to all the administration features *Editor - Somebody who can publish and manage posts and pages as well as manage other users' posts, etc. *Author - Somebody who can publish and manage their own posts *Contributor - Somebody who can write and manage their posts but not publish them *Subscriber - Somebody who can only manage their profile Note - Some Plugins might change Roles and Capabilities.

I want images added to my website, but I don't have any right now?

BGGE Web Design will upload content-appropriate stock photos to your web page until you are ready to replace them with your own images. Photo replacement charges may apply.

Am I required to use the hosting plans you recommend?

No. However, not all website builders and editors are equal. Some may not allow the use of 3rd party editors or they may have pre-set feature which are not editable. This may mean a slower turn-around time of your website.

I don't have a slogan, mission statment or logo, what should I do?

BGGE Web Design with provide you with a generic slogan, mission statment or logo for your specific industry until you can furnish your own at no additional charge.

I can't think of any sales points to add to my pages, will you do if for me?

BGGE Web Design normally builds on the documentation you provide. However, we can do this process in reverse. BGGE will furnish content for your home and major pages, and submit them to you for revision. Because this may require research, BGGE charges an extra free, payable in advance. Mention this is your "request for a quote".

How much do you charge for building me a custom website?

Because each website is different (custom), there is not a flat rate.  However, with BGGE Web Design's current promotion, you pay only $100 for the 1st three pages of your website.  For most non-profit and informational business websites, that is all that is needed.

Each additional page will cost from $35 to $50, dependent on the amount of content.  If you order additional pages in lots of 3 you will be given the $100 promotional rate.  For example, a 6 page website is $200 instead of $205 to $250.

E-commerce pages are based on the number of products per page in addition to the base rate.  Refer to the question about pictures.

How much do you charge for setting up my website?

Currently, the $25.00 fee is waived.

What is your refund and cancellation policy?

BGGE Web Design does not refund on work started. A full refund will be given on a per page basis in the rare event that BGGE Web Design can not start or complete the project because of technical difficulties. Repeated revision requests does not constitute incomplete work. You may cancel your custom website within 24 hours of payment without penalty.

In general, no. There will be no extra charge for reasonable word, layout structure, and presentation changes. However, a complete rewrite or transfer of work to another hosting company constitute a new page or website, and therefore charges apply. BGGE Web Design is reasonable and may even add some freebies at it's discretion. But, reasonable has its limits.

Can I set up a payment plan?

No. BGGE Web Design is based on a pay-as-you-go system. No work will be done until payment is received in full. If your budget is limited, I suggest that you take advantage of ou "3 pages for $100" promotional and request a home page, contact us, and an guestbook page. That way you will have a fully functional web presence where customers and potential customers can contact you and give you feedback.
